KAGAME CHOSEN AS RWANDAN PATRIOTIC FRONT OFFICIAL CANDIDAT FOR 2024 ELECTIONS

President Paul Kagame has been selected as the official candidate of Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF-Inkotanyi) in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections. The decision was made during an extraordinary congress held at the RPF-Inkotanyi headquarters in Rusororo, Kigali, attended by over 2,000 party cadres on Saturday, March 9.

President Paul Kagame is the current president of Rwanda, he is also the “chairman” of the Rwandan Patriotic Front party which has just designated him as its candidate for the presidential elections which are taking place in July.

Before the candidate’s choice, the RPF’s Secretary General, Wellars Gasamagera, highlighted the party’s achievements in economic development, social welfare, and infrastructure despite challenges like the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gasamagera outlined improvements in economic growth, infrastructure, education, and healthcare, emphasizing the party’s commitment to the national Vision 2050 for sustainable development. He also mentioned plans to focus on green transportation, AI-driven economic growth, and education quality.

Given the phenomenal achievements of candidate Kagame during his previous mandates, as well as those of his party, it is certain that several other parties in opposition, will also join RPF to declare their support to its candidate.

It should be noted that, unlike Western democracies, the FPR-Inkotanyi, which has been in power since this party stopped the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994, has always associated all the other political parties in the power sharing, except obviously those who continue to drag out genocidal ideology in their politics.

The selection of Kagame as the RPF’s flag-bearer sets the stage for the 2024 elections, with the party aiming to continue its efforts towards national development and improving the quality of life for all Rwandans.

President Kagame in his acceptance speech declared that he had accepted the appointment, but he urged and strongly encouraged the members of the RPF-Inkotanyi to prepare for the necessary succession.

“The burden of responsibility to lead our country can be seen as a shock absorber function, given the challenges we face daily. It requires a good state of mind,” he said. “I accept this burden of responsibility, but with a call to find someone to relieve me of this responsibility,” he added.

Rwanda is planning its presidential and legislative elections on July 15, in line with a government decision last year to hold the polls on the same date.

Rwanda presents itself as one of the most stable countries on the African continent, with spectacular socio-economic development, after the human, economic and infrastructure destruction during the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.
