As a prelude to this planetary event which will bring together several former stars of African and world football, the organizing committee of the competition has initiated a promotional campaign called “Legends in Rwanda”.
The concept was presented to the international press this Friday, December 16, 2022 in Doha, Qatar, on the sidelines of the Football World Cup that this country has hosted since November 20, 2022. Among the distinguished guests was prominently Samuel Eto ’o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation.
Through Legends in Rwanda, several football legends (Lilian Thuram, Anthony Baffoe, Patrick Mboma, Khalilou Fadiga, Jimmy Gatete, Roger Milla, etc.) will meet institutions, economic leaders and civil society to present them and the invite you to this historic event.
This campaign also aims to mobilize Rwandans and Africans in the diaspora to take part in the event; to promote the Visit Rwanda campaign; to seek economic, institutional and media partners for the event.
Tournament and Forums
After this meeting in Doha, the Legends in Rwanda campaign will mark a next stop, on March 17, 2023 in Kigali, with a gala in which several great figures of legends will take part. A world tour is also planned from March 2023 to January 2024. In February 2024, in Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire, the official presentation of the tournament organization team is announced.
The Veteran Clubs World Championship (VCWC), a project designed by Cameroonian Fred Siewe, will take place from May 10 to 20, 2024 in Kigali. Alongside this tournament, which will bring together 8 teams and more than 150 football veterans from more than 40 countries, several forums are planned, particularly around peace, education, technology, investment and tourism.
