Rwanda’s economic recovery was the inspiration behind eSwatini’s Strategic Roadmap 2019-2023, Prime Minister Ambrose Dlamini has said.Officially launching eSwatini’s new economic blueprint on Monday, Dlamini played a video on how Rwanda picked itself up and developed its economy after suffering genocide 25 years ago.

The video highlighted how the Rwandan economy grew in leaps and bounds between 2001 and 2014 under the leadership of President Paul Kagame.

“Some of the strategies implemented by Rwanda, which the government of eSwatini wants to emulate, include ensuring a knowledge-based economy through a robust governance system and a focus on a vision that prioritizes its citizens,” the premier said.

The new eSwatini strategy seeks to create more than 10,000 jobs a year for the next five year as well as to reduce the corporate tax rate by 12.5 percent and to start audits for capital projects.
